The Stations
Over the years traditional radio broadcasters have recognized that the general listening audience appreciates the ability to hear music defined by increasingly specific format boundaries. The number of available radio formats has expanded from just a handful (mostly Top 40 and Country) in the 1950s and ‘60s to several dozen today, ranging from Rhythmic CHR to Hot AC to New Country to Smooth Jazz. Still, many listeners criticize radio for continuing to program music to as broad an audience as possible, often ignoring those people who prefer to listen to music that is not mass-produced and mass-targeted. The AMSi Online Radio Networks have been developed with these folks in mind – those individuals who spend a lot of time listening to radio, but can't find everything they want on the AM or FM dial. While HD Radio has been marketing itself as "the stations between the stations," many audiophiles have neither the inclination nor the dollars to purchase an HD receiver. Similarly, satellite radio claims to have a format to fit everyone's tastes – but most people don't (and never will) want to pay $12.95 a month to get what they believe they should receive for free. By contrast, almost everyone in the U.S. has an Internet radio receiver available at home and/or at work, and – very soon – in their car and even their pocket.
With this in mind, AMSi is offering 50 niche-formatted online radio stations exclusively designed for terrestrial radio stations to offer as ancillary, "multi-channel" services in addition to streaming their over-the-air signal(s). These stations will be exclusive brand extensions that will serve the needs of those listeners who regularly tune to their favorite station but occasionally want to hear programming that goes a little deeper into a specific musical genre. Most Country listeners who want to hear the newest releases from the hottest bands in Nashville still occasionally like to hear the classics from Hank Williams and Patsy Cline. Research shows that Baby Boomers who listen to News/Talk also love to tune in to Triple A or Americana. And a number of hardcore album rock fans just can't get enough of those Classic Rock "deep cuts" that a highly tested radio station just won't play. But stations affiliated with the AMSi Online Radio Networks can satisfy the tastes of all these listeners – and more.
